The last Shooting Blanks record I got a
chance to review consisted of snotty punk with both melodicore and
pop tendencies, and a lot of silly writing. This time around the
boys have toned down their act, concentrating less on discord and
much more on melody. Let’s attribute that to, gasp, a maturation
process. The lyrics too are affected by this new maturity, dealing
less with drinking and more with feelings. Sounds sappy? Emo-ish?
Well, sorry to burst your bubble emo kid, it isn’t. Instead, it’s
good old fashioned pop-punk with sudden bursts of raw punk energy. A
good record, either way, and one that will remind you that sometimes
growing up isn’t all that bad.
